Primal/Paleo Nutrition

So what exactly is the primal/paleo diet? In essence it's nothing new, it's simply the diet that we, as humans, have evolved to eat. Our ancestors thrived on a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, animal foods, nuts and seeds.

Current thinking would have us look to the future for the latest in medical technology in order to make us healthier. Doesn't it make more sense to actually look back where we came from to a time when our bodies WERE healthy, when they WERE strong, and when they WERE lean?

A very simplistic view of what primal/paleo nutrition consists of is this... "if it runs and you can catch it, then you can eat it. If you can find it in the wild and consume it in it's natural state, then you can eat it."

Did you notice that there is one thing missing that is generally thought of as being a healthy staple of a well-balanced diet? Grains. There is absolutely no requirement in the human diet that needs to be fulfilled by consuming grains. In fact, there are a multitude of reasons NOT to consume grains. Phytates, lectins, and gluten... 3 big reasons right there. The fiber and nutrient content of grains can't stand up to fruits and vegetables on a calorie for calorie basis.

Comparison of grains vs. fruit/vegetables For all you non believers out there read 'em and weep.

The primal lifestyle is all about simplicity. It's about getting back to moving our bodies in ways that will help us to be stronger and fit. It's about eating in ways that will improve our health and not destroy it.

Being primal is expressing ourselves to our fullest physical potential.
